Real estate is aspirational. Buyers believe that buying your home will transform them into organized, successful, and stylish people. Staging fuels that image. Working with a stager to get the latest furniture styles that fit your space and look fresh is ideal. But it can be costly. So, if that's not an option for you, we've suggested some DIY options to help buyers see your home in the most flattering light.
1. Furniture. Reduce it. Sell / Donate Store. Buyers should be able to see where the wall and floor meet in 65% of your home.
2. Accessories. Large items that have one color are nice focal points and photo-friendly. Remove smaller collectibles. Surfaces should be clear of everyday items.
3. Repairs. Features that are obviously broken will taint Buyers’ opinions and be reflected in any offers you receive. You want Buyers to want to impress you, not think they’re doing you a favor.
4. Paint. If you can, hire a pro. White paint is a Seller’s best friend. If time is limited, focus on hallways, doorways, and other narrow spaces where the scuffs are most plentiful.
5. Windows. The #1 request I hear from Buyers is for natural light. Remove screens. Remove drapes. Leave any shades ALL the way up. And get your windows professionally cleaned.
6. Clean. Nothing sells like spotless. And nothing hurts a sale like dirt. Don’t miss light fixtures, window shades, moldings, door frames, under furniture, inside appliances, around your furnace.
When you list your home, make every moment count. You won't get a second chance to make a great first impression.
